Description

SANT'AGATA DEI GOTI The Church of Sant'Agata dei Goti has a very antique origin: it was founded a little earlier than the invasions of the Goti ( middle C.VI) and during their occupation it was used for the Arian cult. Reconsecrated by San Gregorio Magno in 593, it was almost completely rebuilt in 1633. From the initial construction the apse and part of the structural complex are what remain. The façade, with a porch in the lower order, is by Francesco Ferrari (C.XVIII); it is preceded by an arcaded court, under whose arches one finds a little lapidary museum. The interior, with three naves on sixteen antique columns, evidently presents the C.V’s structure. The nicest part of the church is the courtyard, built during C. XVIII around a well covered with ivy.
