Description

MUSEO DEL TEATRO ARGENTINA
The Argentina Theatre is a work of thearchitect Girolamo Theodoli. It was inaugurated in 1732 and subject to numerousrestoration works in the course of time, among which those performed at the endof the sixties that destroyed its ancient structures. Considered from the verybeginning one of the main Roman theatres, in the course of time it alternatedmoments of glory with deep crises. The Museum of the Argentina Theatre is located in the attic of the Museum andwas founded in 1973. It exhibits stage costumes, marionettes, and masks comingfrom different Italian regions, photographic reproductions of materials kept inother collections, fragments of wall decorations, preparatory studies forcurtains, posters, and drawings. The changes suffered by the urban area aroundthe theatre, called Argentina from Argentoratum(Latin name of the current Strasbourg) the native city of Johannes Burckhardt,papal master of ceremonies whose palace was in the area, are also documented.
