The building is the headquarters of the Soprintendenza Archeologica, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the metropolitan area of Rome, the province of Viterbo and Southern Etruria.

Description

The palace was built at the end of the 16th century by an unknown family, whose abraded coat of arms can be seen on the cornice and in the courtyard, on the site of the Melangolo Tower, shown on Bufalini's plan (1551). It was later acquired by the Martinelli, Mellini, Patrizi, Clementi and Ascarelli families, and finally by the State.
The facades on Via dei Funari and Piazza Campitelli each have three floors and a portal surmounted by a balcony. The first floor has architraved windows, the second and third have simple frames. The rooms on the first floor contain frescoes attributable to Giovanni da San Giovanni (circa 1627).

The building was restored in 1937 and 1965.
