Description
The fountain of the Pigna (Pinecone) is one ofthe small fountains built by Lombardi for the City districts between 1925 and1927. It symbolises the district with the same name (Pigna). The fountain consists of a stem at the centre of a small basin, on which two stylised corollas support a pinecone. Water pours from two side taps and flows in small ponds at the ground level, surrounded by four wayside posts. The fountain refers to the huge ancient pinecone that gave the name to the district, now placed in the courtyard having its same name in the Vatican City.
