Description

The fountain dell’Orso (of the Bear) was commissioned by the Municipality of Rome at the beginning of the twentieth century. It consists of a bear’s head that pours water from his mouth into a low travertine pond with a balustrade and supported by a pedestal. The fountain is enclosed within an arched frame with the coat of arms of the Municipality and the inscription acqua vergine. The bear’s head refers to the Orsini family that owned property in the area.
